Just a day after the State Department admits Bolton lied in documents filed with the Senate, Bush recess-appoints Bolton to the United Nations, unConstitutionally evading the Senate's advise & consent role. The imperialist warfreak neconc-lique's Bolton didn't tell the Senate he had been questioned by the State Department's INspector General regarding the forged uranium documents that the White House used to lie its way into the Iraq war. Then later Friday night, the Senate suddenly renewed the USA PATRIOT Act by unanimous consent. The Senate's version of the bill is not quite as bad as the House version passed last week. Like the House, they made 14 of the 16 expiring provisions permanent; but the Senate renewed the other two for four rather than 10 more years. There are a few new light reporting requirments for the Justice Department, ability to challenge some business-record seizure orders, and a slightly higher hurdle for some setting up wiretaps and seizing business records. With this move, it is likely the Senate and the House will have time to resolve their differences so Bush can sign a PATRIOT renewal bill on Spetember 11, 2005. .....| Posted at 15:18 | PERMA-LINK |
