Bush surrounds Louisiana with armed Mexican troops

As the White House unsuccessfully insists on seizing control of the Louisiana National Guard to institute full-blown martial law in New Orleans, it has brought in foreign troops moving on the Western and Eastern borders of the state.

Washington Post/AP Thursday, September 8, 2005; 4:31 PM is peddling the government line that the soldiers are unarmed, but does note that the Mexican Navy has brought hardware to the Mississippi Gulf Coast:
LAREDO, Texas -- A Mexican army convoy of nearly 200 people crossed the border into the United States on Thursday to bring aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina, becoming the first Mexican military unit to operate on U.S. soil since 1846.

Mexico's first disaster aid mission to the United States was greeted at the border by dignitaries from both countries.
    [...]
The Mexican government already was planning another 12-vehicle aid convoy for this week. It has sent a Mexican navy ship toward the Mississippi coast with rescue vehicles and helicopters.
But Alex Jones is reporting from several sources the troops in Texas are armed! From PrisonPlanet.com :
Two separate credible sources known to Alex Jones have reported that armed combat ready Mexican troops have entered Texas.

The Associated Press reported today that unarmed Mexican troops were being escorted by the US army to help relief efforts for hurricane Katrina.

However, the report was only specific to one convoy. The convoys reported to Alex Jones are said to be fully armed with Heckler & Koch German assault rifles.

The first sighting occurred at 12:30 on Highway 183 traveling towards Austin. The eyewitness described at least ten vehicles, four jeeps (other witnesses described them as Humvees) and six combat trucks brimming with armed Mexican troops wearing body armor, helmets and rifles. The troops riding in the jeeps were wearing holstered hand guns.

The vehicles were not being escorted by the US army or any other government vehicles and the vehicles were festooned with insignia reading 'Mexico MP's' and the Mexican flag.

The second sighting of a similar nature occurred north of Austin on I35 near Georgetown Texas.

    [...]
The following Louisiana authorities must be alerted about the threat of armed foreign troops brought into the country by the Bush Administration.

    Gov. Kathleen Blanco: 1-866.310.7617, (225) 342-0991, (225) 342-7015 or (225) 925-1938.

    Louisiana State Police: (225) 925-4755, (225) 925-6118,

    Louisiana National Guard: 225-925-7524.

Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness: 225-925-7500

As a Louisiana resident and as an American, I'm furious about this development! I will definitely be calling my congressman, state police and others and find out how this could possibly be happening.

      This is an outrage!

Get a grip folks! The Mexican Army & Navy have are the only Mexican organization which can offer help of any mention. I lived in Mexico for 5 years and have seen thier military review parades during the anniversary of the revolution and the independance. It is a joke!
Yes we should all shake in our boots from the mighty mexican military. Get a life!

      Listen guys,

The Mexican military are not like the U.S. military. They do not go around the world picking fights. They mostly stay in and around Mexico doing just this sort of thing (humanitarian aid).

They walk the Mexican beaches waking up drunk people who partied too late and get them home to their families. They give poor kids haircuts. They cook food for people who are displaced by a major storm.

I have had personal contact with many of these Mexican military guys (and girls) and can vouch that they are some of the nicest people in Mexico. They aren't like Mexican cops, who can sometimes be assholes (especially at the border and tourist areas). They turn down money or anything that may be a bribe. They play and joke with each other in very fun and pleasant ways and are pleasant to be around. At first sight they might be a little scary as some of them carry guns bigger than they are, but I can assure you these guys are very nice and not out to get anybody. And when they are well-armed it's because they have to be to not get killed by the even better-armed Mexican drug lords who only exist because of the huge drug demand from the United States.

Their job is to help. Yes it's true that they carry holster guns but come'on, they are after-all military. From what I understand it's still legal in the U.S. for people to walk around carrying holstered guns anyway.

I too am very suspicious of the New World Order, but I don't think the Mexicans are here to further that cause. I think they like being here and they like helping (and are well-experienced in providing REAL help). Personally, I welcome them. And even though there aren't a lot of them, I believe they will be a bigger help than most people think.

"They play and joke with each other in very fun and pleasant ways and are pleasant to be around."

If they're so pleasant and fun, why are they bringing machine guns? It's an armed military force not a troupe of happy mimes.

That's what I was getting at:
Basically American idea of what military is, IS NOT the same as what the Mexican idea is.

These guys are not die-hard soldiers hyped-up on speed ready to kill anything that moves.

I believe that they, like many other countries, offered help to the US in the wake of Katrina out of goodwill. The Bush Administration's first reaction was to turn down all of that help. Now they have been caught with their pants down and it was beginning to look too bad to have turned down such much-needed help. So they reversed their position.

And I believe the Mexicans like being here and are feeling good about helping. This is a first for them to help Americans as I have seen them do (on beaches, etc) in Mexico (yes, it is true, I am not just making that up!). I also believe after a few months they'll be more than ready to want to return to Mexico.

It is a shame for Americans to be asking for help from other countries... What has happened to our independence?

OMFG! Mexican gov't sending humanitarian aid to US after biggest disaster in US History! We are doomed!

The Mexican army also uses gerber knives as their standard issue army knife which is made in the USA.
