Hamilton Spectator (Canada) Jul 28, 2006: "Eight members of a loose-knit coalition of peace groups have been convicted of trespassing during a May 15 demonstration at L-3 Wescam's North Service Road offices in Burlington. [...]
Justice of the peace Pryor Bonas made it clear he sympathized with the group's position that they acted out of conscience and concern for peace.[...]
Court was told nine people, who are members of the Mothers' Day Coalition for Peace, Hamilton Action for Social Change and Homes not Bombs, were arrested after being advised to leave when the group approached the front door of the building asking for a meeting with Wescam's president.[...]
The group wanted a meeting to ask the company's president if he had any idea what havoc the Wescam weapons guidance systems cause in the world.
Bonas rejected ... defence argument that the group had a moral duty to protest Wescam's manufacture of military equipment.
[Gail] Lorimer told the court she began demonstrating outside Wescam because she could not stand by and do nothing while products are manufactured that kill people.
L-3 Wescam systems are used in Predator drone attack aircraft and various other targeting applications. [...]
Outside court, [demonstrator Matthew] Behrens said the verdict means the demonstrators "will be back" at Wescam some day.
"It means (Wescam) has a right to make products that kill people," he said. "It means anyone who interferes is eligible for a trespassing charge."[...] -----
