Jeb Bush throwing Florida to Romney

Skull & Bones 322 seems to be working closer than ever with its cousin Mormon lodge. From The Associated Press February 17. 2007:
"TALLAHASSEE — Former Gov. Jeb Bush has no plans to get publicly involved in the Republican presidential primary, but behind the scenes he is steering some of his closest advisers Mitt Romney's way.

And once directed toward the former Massachusetts governor, many are being sold on the underdog candidate, including Bush's hand-picked state party chairman, his former campaign manager and Toni Jennings, the woman Bush chose as his lieutenant governor.

"Gov. Bush said, 'Before you commit, I want you to meet Mitt Romney. He is the kind of guy you will like no matter what,'Ê" Jennings said. "The governor was very candid about the fact that he really liked this guy."

She and a who's who list of Florida politicos are now in the Romney camp, an edge they hope will help their candidate overcome a lack of name ID in a state that could have a larger role in the nomination.

Romney is becoming a frequent visitor to Florida on trips that serve dual purposes. On Friday, he planned private meetings in Jacksonville to help build his team before holding a town hall meeting in Central Florida at The Villages, a huge retirement community that's a must-stop for politicians campaigning in the state.

Romney also campaigned with Bush to help Florida candidates last fall. In a separate trip as head of the Republican Governors Association, Romney brought a $1 million check to the state Republican Party as part of the successful effort to elect Charlie Crist as governor. Romney is planning trips next month to address party activists in Miami and Tampa.[...]

Said Sally Bradshaw, a former Bush campaign manager and chief of staff,... "We are fully committed to putting the resources here so people can get an up-close look at Mitt Romney."
    [...]
Florida is considering moving up its primary to have more say in the outcome of the presidential nominees. Under a bill moving through the Legislature, it would be held either seven days after New Hampshire
's or Feb. 5, whichever comes first.
