It turns out forensics identified a totally different person as the V-Tech gunman before the official story concealed around the robotic patsy Cho. From a google cache of the Chicago Sun-Times Monday night:

Sneed hears authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people in a rampage on the Virginia Tech campus was a Chinese national who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa.

The 25-year-old man being investigated for the deadliest college carnage in U.S. history reportedly arrived in San Francisco on a United Airlines flight on Aug. 7, 2006, on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators had not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source added.

The shooter reportedly had multiple handguns with high-capacity magazines, enabling him to kill many students quickly.

The rampage also appeared to have been premeditated since the exits in the campus buildings in which the shootings occurred were chained.

The story at that URL was updated Tuesday morning after ATF had "helped" by taking over the firearm forensics analysis Monday night(though the date on the story remained April 16). Again, from Chicago Sun-Times:

The gunman suspected of carrying out the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead was identified today as Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old South Korean who was a senior at the school.

He was carrying a backpack that contained 9mm clips, two knives and a bag from Dick's Sporting Goods, a source said. The backpack was found near the shooter.

The initial investigation had led law enforcement authorities to a preliminary suspect who was a Chinese national, accompanied by details and a description. The man was placed on the suspect list before fingerprints could be verified. The list in turn was distributed to law enforcement officials via a national network in place to check on possible terrorism in the United States.

Cho was identified following an analysis of fingerprints and ballistics.

Cho was a English major whose creative writing was so disturbing that he was referred to the school’s counseling service.

News reports also said he may have been taking medication for depression.

Also note that eyewitnesses who survived the slaughter said the gunman was a 6-foot Asian man. Yet the patsy Cho was 5-foot-8, 150 pounds. It is likely that the six-foot Asian gunman was indeed this Chinese man.

Independent investigators in Blacksburg should try to find out who this mysterious might have been -- was there anyone fitting this description in Blacksburg over the last several who may have had access to the campus? An employee of the University perhaps?

Distrubingly, this information implies that the Chinese Communists in the People's Liberation Army are actively working with elements of the American military-intelligence complex in conducting murderous operations on American soil.

Hi, thank you for this post. I am a media studies scholar and am looking for the original page of Michael Sneed's erroneous report about the killer's identity. I followed the link "google cache of the Chicago Sun-Times Monday night" in your post, but the page is already updated! Does anyone have a screen shot of the original page, or is there anyway I can still view it? Your help is really appreciated!

Well, I saw the original report by myself; I just didn't get a chance to save the screenshot. And now they have apparently removed the page.

That original report has proved erroneous, hasn't it? It's a factual thing, not an opinion issue. If it is false, anyone, including a true scholar, can say it is erroneous. If there was a report saying the U.S. president is NOT Bush, but someone else, do you mean as a true scholar, I can't even say this report was erroneous? Are you suggesting further investigation on whether the U.S. president is Bush or not?

I am stunned by your irresponsible comments on this fact, after the truth has been disclosed days ago. When people were in shock or horror, how could they tell exactly how tall the gunman was by just eye-measuring in a hurry?

Also, since you seemed to be very "cautious" not to trust the updated official report, then don't use the word "LIKELY" in your own writing. This is not a word we need for issues like this. Give us more evidence then we will trust you more.

I would rather believe that you missed Cho's videos. Otherwise, you wouldn't say so. If you in fact have seen his videos on TV, and still hold this view, I am sorry but I feel disgusted about your obviously stereotypical mindset towards China. You have lost my respect.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else was wondering where the chains came from? Did he bring them with him? Did he find them somewhere? Why hasn't anyone asked this obvious question? Have the police said anything about it? Where are all those investigative journalists?

I was wondering if the gunman wore some kind of boots so that he looked taller than he actually was? This might partly explain the discrepancy you mentioned.

Truth or science are never established by consensus. We obviously have a collision here between someone who is trying to study the "facts" (?) of the case, yet has already made up his mind that the official version is the accurate account. I think the kindest thing that can be said of such a person is he(she) is "new."
For those who have been diligent in studying past events:
The Davidians didn't fire first.
There were two blasts at OKC.
The FBI bore responsibility for the 1st WTC 1993 event.
Flight 800 didn't go down because of a fuel tank problem.
So, I think there is an understanding among many Americans that the official story is virtually never the actual story. But by this time our "journalist" has locked up in severe cognitive dissonance. If he ever comes out, . . . what we are doing here is trying to ferret out the inconsistencies THIS time around. The pattern is well established. If this VTech event turned out to have no hidden elements it would be a First for the last 20 years.

here is what i believe to have happened. a team of assassins, all dressed the same, all asian with similar features to cho, carried out this operation. cho was the perfect patsy bc of his documented psychological problems. it is ballistically impossible for one person with 2 handguns to do what cho is said to have done. the amount of ammo fired in that time would melt the gun and seriously disfigure the shooters hand. one student on the 3rd floor said the 2nd floor was very hot when she came downstairs. to fire enough ammo to heat the floor within 15-20 minutes requires more than a couple gunsw and more than one shooter. just think if the floor is hot, how hot the supposed 2 guns would be in the lone shooters hands.

WHY IS THERE NO SURVEILLANCE VIDEO PROVING CHO WAS THE SHOOTER, OR SHOWING HIM MAILING THE VIDEOS TO NBC? JUST LIKE NO VIDEO PROVES ANY ARAB HIJACKERS BOARDED ANY HIJACKED AIRLINERS ON 9/11/2001. If he was a patsy for his sister's CIA, that was clever to get him to make those incriminating videos, "just for fun". Or did he make the Oldboy videos to whistleblow that he was trapped in a CIA Project Manchurian mind-control torture program? PirateNews.org

On the day of the shooting, a young man by the name of O'Dell (can't remember his first name) who was shot in the arm and wearing a sling, told reporters that the shooter was 6 feet tall and was wearing a black leather jacket and maroon hat. Yet other students said he was dressed like a boy scout in beige T-shirt and black vest.
